i took the day off
and spent it in my gardens with
dirt caked from my toes to my knees,
clearing the overgrowth
that was taking up space,
digging up weeds,
pulling them at their roots,
wiping sweat from my brow,
and swatting at the mayflies.
i took off my sunhat, and
let the breeze chill the damp hair
clinging to my neck.
i took long gulps of water.
i took breaks.
i sat in the sun.
