ebbs and flows

those early summer days were sweet
filled with sunscreen and splash pads
melted popsicles and sticky kisses,
and even stickier hands.
strawberry picking under a blistering sun
sneaking nibbles under shady hats.
feeling the sand between our toes,
holding hands as the ocean crashed on our legs,
squealing with laughter.

‘these are the best years,’
i whisper to the waves.
‘don’t let them wash away.’
