March Wrap-Up

Thanks to my Kindle and lots of newborn snuggles, I read 8 books in March! I had a good mix of historical fiction, fantasy, fiction, and even some poetry written by a close friend!

Here’s what I read:

The Women by Kristin Hannah

Certainly not my favorite by Hannah (The Nightingale is incredible), but The Women was compelling and interesting all the same. I don’t know a lot about the Vietnam War and was captivated by this moment in history and Hannah’s attention to women who served. You can read more about my thoughts on this book here.

The Diamond Eye by Kate Quinn

A solid 5-star read by Kate Quinn. It was such a good story. I appreciated learning about Lyudmila Pavlichenko through Kate’s interpretation and admire the author’s goal to spotlight impressive women in history. The connection between Mila and Eleanor Roosevelt was also so interesting, and of course, the book had a lot of love and heartbreak.

The Library of Borrowed Hearts by Lucy Gilmore

Ugh. I was super disappointed with this one. I received this advanced reader’s copy from NetGalley after loving Gilmore’s The Lonely Hearts Book Club, so I was excited to read another one of her books. I think I have a permanent migraine from rolling my eyes at this book … oh, and a stiff neck from cringing. It has such an interesting premise and started out so good and then got SO BAD AND THE ENDING MY GOD. I cannot. I think another rant review will be coming soon. Stay tuned.

A River Enchanted by Rebecca Ross (Elements of Cadence #1)

Rebecca Ross is just magic. I loved loved loved this book. It was Outlander meets fantasy and romance and … well .. magic. The storyline, the characters, the romance — all so good.

I will say that Jack is pretty boring and I was sick of the “heiress” and “my old menace” back and forth but whatever it’s fine because SIDRA AND TORIN ARE LIFE.

A Fire Endless by Rebecca Ross (Elements of Cadence #2)

Could A River Enchanted have been a standalone? Yes. Very much yes. Despite this opinion, I am glad that I read this duology and was happy with how it ended. I plan to write a longer review on this one in the coming weeks.

Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice by Elle Cosimano (Finlay Donovan #4)

How many books will be in this series? Like where else can we go? These books are so ridiculous and entertaining; I just can’t stop reading them. They’re funny and I just enjoy reading them, OK?

Nick, Finlay’s love interest, however, gave me MAJOR ICK this time around. I was so uncomfortable and gaggy with him. Something’s up. Case closed.

MARGOT: stardust, dreams, and lovers ghosts

This beautiful book of poetry was written by my dearest friend, Isabella. Her poems felt as easy as breathing … if that makes sense? I felt seen and loved throughout. I am so, so proud of her. You can order her book here.

Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano

… EH? This one was just OK for me. It was one of those hyped books on Instagram that left me a little deflated. This was a book about a family who … don’t like each other all that much? They pretend to be there for each other but they’re all pretty toxic to one another? A book centered around a dude who is a literal life-ruiner? A book that gives eldest siblings a bad name? A book that was like 150 pages too long? Sheesh.

What did you read in March? Have you read any of the above?
