swoon swoon swoon

Did I read a romantasy and absolutely love it? Yes, yes I did.
This past spring, I saw nothing but pictures of two different book covers on bookstagram: Fourth Wing … and Divine Rivals.
I looked up both books, interested in what the “hype” was all about (I don’t trust booksta hype as I’ve been burned many a-time).
But I am here to say that both Fourth Wing (and Iron Flame) and the Letters of Enchantment duology did NOT let me down. I was not burned rather … healed in different ways?
I read Divine Rivals in what felt like 45 minutes. The minute I opened it on my Kindle, it consumed my mind. I was hooked. Aside from the stunning cover (typewriter keys?!), the storyline seemed interesting enough, and I was crossing my fingers that while this seemed like a romantasy (romance + fantasy), there would be substantial plot and action to keep me engaged.
There was.
And while I was truly SWOONING over Roman Kitt, I was also deeply invested in the storyline and where all of the characters would end up. There was action, there was slight gore, there was engaging dialogue and characters and character development. This was a GOOD story.
Ross’s writing is superb. Her passion for writing – and her ability to write characters who eloquently write about their passion for writing and storytelling, a love story within a love story within a love story – was evident. I was enthralled!
I had two small, minuscule issues with Ruthless Vows. First, I wish there was a little more backstory for all the gods. I felt like some of those details were lacking. Second, the ending was also a little rushed in parts where I wanted there to be more drama or tension.
I will say this (and repeat it in my next review of The Shepard King duology) … I am super impressed when a writer can create a dynamic, interesting story world and keep it to two books. That makes a really good writer.
Have you read these books? Did you swoon over the letters like I did?
