February Wrap-Up

Well, then.

I knew that February was going to be a slow month for reading with baby #2 on the way! Our girl joined us in the middle of this month and let’s just say reading has been the last thing on my mind lately!

I started out February strong, finishing Sarah J. Maas’s new book, House of Flame and Shadow (951 pages) … and then I finished a memoir by a poet that I love.

House of Flame and Shadow (Crescent City #3) by Sarah J. Maas

Boy, oh boy. What a trip this series has been. I’ve been thinking about this book all month, and while I loved ACOTAR and Throne of Glass, Crescent City just wasn’t/isn’t for me (I heard there’s one more). I absolutely loved the first one, but the second and third books just fell flat for me in many ways.

There were a few things I liked about this book … and many things that I didn’t like. Bryce and Hunt give me MAJOR ick and I found the dialogue and most of the writing insufferable and cringy. I was super disappointed … but it DID capture my attention for 950 pages … so maybe there’s something to say about that.

You Could Make This Place Beautiful: A Memoir by Maggie Smith

I am a big Maggie Smith fan (Dame and American poet). I discovered Smith’s poems a few years back and fell in love with her writing. Her memoir about her divorce and self-discovery was truly beautiful. I love the way she wrote it (short, lyrical chapters) and felt so many things while reading it. Highly recommend.
